The High Council of Gallifrey

The High Council started out as a small college-based club, and has now grown into a fully self-supporting international non-profit group, dedicated to the enjoyment of Doctor Who. Although based in Montréal, we now have 73 members from across Canada, various areas of the USA, and even the UK and Australia. Some of the actors from the series have even accepted memberships, including John Levene (Sgt. Benton), Frazer Hines (Jamie) and Sylvester McCoy (the 7th Doctor himself)! The club is extremely lucky to have sources and contacts in England, who are willing to provide us with news and new Doctor Who products long before they are generally available in North America. Roughly once every six weeks, we hold a general meeting, where we watch rare Doctor Who videos, or play trivia challenge games, or hold discussions and debates on the show. We also, as a group, attend and sometimes hold discussion panels at conventions. We even work at PBS stations during pledge drives. . . And, of course, we were one of the host clubs of the WhoCon Montréal '93, Montréal's Doctor Who 30th anniversary convention, featuring guests Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon, companion to the second Doctor), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa, companion to the fourth and fifth Doctors), and sci-fi artist Larry "The Doctor" Stewart.

And then, of course, there is the Foreman Report, our club magazine. . .

We are very proud of the Foreman Report. Our magazine has been highly rated by various Doctor Who fan clubs across North America. Inside a typical issue of the Foreman Report, you'll find articles, news, jokes, opinions, art, trivia, photos and original stories, all on Doctor Who. What makes our club different from some of the larger ones is that any member can contribute. Each and every member of the High Council of Gallifrey from anywhere in the world can submit any kind of article, story, question, artwork or whatever to the club and expect it to be found in an issue of the Foreman Report. Our latest issue, issue #16, featured among other things an interview with Nicholas Courtney (Dr. Who's Brigadier), a feature article on male companions, and patterns for knitting your own Tom Baker-style Dr. Who scarf!

Membership to the club for one year costs only $10. That gives you a membership card, access to our meetings and events, and at least 4 issues of the Foreman Report, plus the right to have your own submissions printed in the magazine. All for just $10. As a special offer, if you join right now, the club will also send you a limited edition poster: Tom Baker, the most famous of the Doctors, as rendered by artist Tim Sauve. There are only a few of these left, so this is only while supplies last and you must mention this offer on your form when you join.

Below is a membership form for you to fill out. To join the club, print it out and send it with your cheque, money-order, or cash to:

The High Council of Gallifrey
C/O Jennifer Brown
P.O. Box 311, Station B
Montréal, Quebéc
Canada H3B 3J7

Your cheques/money-orders should be made out to Andrew Gurudata. Please note that for U.S. members, we prefer to not receive personal cheques, as the banks are merciless with service charges. Please use a money order if possible, and send U.S. personal cheques only if you have no other choice.

If you are not convinced by my fine words above that now is the time to join the High Council of Gallifrey, maybe you would like to just take a peek at what the club is all about first. Well, if that's the case, I have another offer for you: For just $3.00 + postage, we can send you a copy of the latest issue of the Foreman Report. Inside, you'll see how our magazine is made up of articles, stories, artwork, and all kinds of other fun stuff, all from fans just like you. I'm pretty sure that once you've seen a trial issue, you'll be convinced that it's one of the best ways for Doctor Who fans to get together. After all, where else can you as a Doctor Who fan display your opinions and talents for other fans to see?

Remember: the High Council of Gallifrey is a Doctor Who fan club made for those of us who enjoy the show. In these times of an uncertain future for the series, the best way to be sure that the series will survive is for us fans to be united and together.
