Welcome to the alternate George Harrison web page. The difference between this and the true George Harrison Home Page is that this page does not require CGI scripts to access its links. However, since most data must be parsed from a database, the only data available here is either text, samples or images. Thus, selecting an album link will download a c. 200x200 image of its album cover, though I will somehow put in links to reviews as well. Selecting lyrics or samples will download a text copy or the sound binary directly, without the navigation tools available on the original page via CGI. Who is George Harrison?

On February 25, 1943, there was born unto this Earthly plane a musician like the world had never seen before, nor would since. Young George Harrison was a keen child, and he greatly admired two older boys who had formed a group called The Quarrymen. After months of pestering, and with a little influence from the free use of his house for practice, George picked up his guitar and began a journey down the long road of destiny that would bring him from his little house in Liverpool to the four corners of the Earth and back again.

Now dear Spike Wilbury lives in solitude. He hasn't given a public concert in 4 years, and hasn't written in 6. If ever anyone has George's ear, tell him his fans miss him; need him. Bring back the Truffle Shuffle.

What kind of music does George Harrison Play?

The short answer is pretty much everything, but in fact I like to split up George's career into 4 phases:

  1. The Beatles Years

    2. This is the period in George's career from its early beginnings until the break up of the Beatles in 1970. It does not however include his two solo albums of the late 60's just as a matter of personal preference.

    3. This begins with the soundtrack album Wonderwall through to Dark Horse, and is hallmarked by eastern musical influence and slightly preachy but delightful pieces.

  3. The Python Years

    4. The album Extra Texture: Read All About It marked a turning point in George's career. It was his last album released under the Apple label, and marked the dawn of his move to Warner Brothers' Music. It was during this period that George had befriended Neil Innes and Eric Idle of Monty Python fame, who both greatly influenced his music over then following decade. This also marked the beginning of George's career in executive production of films.

  4. The Wilbury Years

    5. After a long break from music, apart from the occasional soundtrack album, in the mid 80's, George returned to music with Cloud 9, a complete change in musical style from his previous release in 1983. This period was heavily influenced by friends Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, and the late Roy Orbison. These friendships led to the formation of the Traveling Wilburys in the late 1980's. However, with the passing of Roy Orbison, the group eventually dissolved. The last album ever released featuring George Harrison was his Live Concert in Japan album of 1991.
